Slumming it in Twin Falls, Idaho

First day of driving, done. Road trip with your best friend after a week of packing, trying to fit in a bunch of social engagements and minimal sleep: some mild moments of annoyance, frantic Priceline bidding for a hotel room in the jewel of a Idaho- Twin Falls while at a combination Pilot/Wendy's/Dairy Queen, and lots of showtunes.

After a serious debate over Twin Falls v. Idaho Falls we decided to make day one a bit shorter and stop in Twin Falls. My issue with this: the highest rated hotel in this tiny town is 2 1/2. I was wary from the start.

However with the aforementioned lack of sleep we decided stopping at Twin Falls was the better idea. So after a serious session of manipulating Priceline I was the lucky recipient of a night at the 2-star AmericInn in Twin Falls, Idaho. Not exactly the victory I was going for, but hey, its a place to sleep, right...?

We pull into the AmericInn and notice, there's no parking the lot is completely full. Brilliant, I know this is going to go well already. I walk into the lobby and tell the lady I'm there to check in. She informs me that we have a smoking room. WHAT?!?! That still exists? And furthermore this lady has never smoked a cigarette and can not stand the smell.

She then so lovingly tells me that I'm S.O.L. in finding another room anywhere in town as they have (wait for it) a baseball tournament and a swimming meet going on this weekend. Seeing as these events clearly are on the same level as the Super Bowl no other hotel within two hours has rooms.

This ray of sunshine also has some extremely warm conversations with other patrons and a woman inquiring about a room and then comes back to me to tell me we should park "somewhere that doesn't block someone in" and that they'd try not to tow me. Isn't she a peach?

So the game plan is now to sleep (with the window wide open and the a/c on) for a bit then get up at the crack of dawn to start driving and hopefully our clothes, hair and suitcases won't hold on to the glorious smell of cigarettes for too long.

For now, it time for a Hell or High Watermelon from 21st Amendment, a brief viewing of "Drop Dead Gorgeous" and some sleep. Stay tuned for tomorrows adventures!
